PHILOS is the manufacturer of the membrane filters that are used in Nanofilter, branded as WellSpring Filter. This quarter PHILOS, iTEC, and E3Empower officials have visited Gongali Model in Njiro Arusha (consider the above photo) and have promised to facilitate the scale-up of Nanofilter Project. For example, by finding customers for Tetra-Nanofilter (the big Nanofilter), discount price for membrane filter, and overall partnership for win-win. Moreover, we have developed a Double-Nanofilter (with a filtration rate of 20 litres per hour - Single-Nanofilter has a rate of 10 Litres per hour) and the Tetra-Nanofilter (with a filtration rate of 40 litres per hour) - Suitable for Schools and big institutions. The Tetra-Nanofilter is relatively advanced because it has its own regulating valves - thus it can be used manually or connected directly to a water source and refills automatically as the water levels resides. It is already in the market - the first unit is sold at Tsh.2,000,000 (~$900) to a school in Kilimanjaro Region; Have several orders from schools and companies like E3Empower. This initiative is highly encouraged by iTEC at NM-AIST and PHILOS (Korean Company), a company that fabricate membrane filters (WellSpring Filters) that are used in Nanofilter. PHILOS is willing to re-consider the price of membrane filters (WellSpring Filters) to cut down the overall price of Nanofilter; to make it affordable even to the poorest of the poor in rural Africa.

WINNER of Pitch@Palace GlobalFinally, Dr. Askwar Hilonga emerged an overall winner of the Pitch@Palace Global in London UK, after competing with other winners from their respective continents for the final Global winner. This is recognition for his innovation that promises low-cost Nanofilter Water filter that absorbs anything from drinking water up to 99.999%. Last year, Dr. Hilonga laid a track record after being announced an overall winner of the award namely "The Most Talented African Entrepreneur" in Pitch@Palace Africa. The event is organized by His Royal Highness The Duke of York, Prince Andrew. Gongali Model with its partners and the whole community is so proud to conduct a ground-breaking event in Karatu Dirstrict, Arusha region - Tanzania on 20th Nov. 2016. It was such as splendid event honored by the Arusha Regional Commissioner (through his representative) and covered by about 10 Journalists from National TVs like TBC, ITV, Star TV, Radios, Magazines, etc. About 3,000 people were reached through this event. I hope you will ENJOY the pictures and videos from the event (shown above). We used the event to celebrate the success stories from our beneficiaries - about 8,000 people. We are indebted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to all our partners including GlobalGiving and its generous donors. The impact was very obvious and many people were excited by our humble commitment to serve our under-served communities in Rural Tanzania. By now we have established 150 water stations run by local entrepreneurs who, beside giving the service of clean and safe water, they are also economically benefiting a lot. For example, Ms. Benadeta who has a water station at Mount Meru Hospital earns up to GBP 3 per day as her net profit. This lady had no job BUT now she is self-employed through our Nanofilter water station. She is so grateful! THANKS for your relentless support as we make IMPACT to people like Benadeta and many others. We want to establish 1,000 water stations within 2017. This is equivalent to creating job opportunities to 1,000 local entrepreneurs who will be providing safe and clean water to 100,000 people every day. Please kindly let us know how you would like to be engaged, as you wish. Meanwhile, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your RELENTLESS SUPPORT. ...........................X........................X...........END...............x..........................x.........................

PROGRESS - 17th April 2015: Global Sustainable Partnership (GSP) Enters Partnership with GONGALI MODELGlobal Sustainable Partnership (GSP), an American Charity (Website: gspartnerships.org), has donated 100 filters to allow GONGALI MODEL to give filters to schools in rural Karatu District. We are so grateful for this breakthrough! THANKS to GSP for opening doors for the most awaited partnership between GONGALI MODEL and the charities (NGOs) that are interested to health and sanitation, particularly for primary and secondary schools. It was somehow challenging for schools to purchase our complete set of filter at a price of Tsh.250,000. BUT now, GSP has enabled us to give 100 filters to schools. GSP allow GONGALI to subsidize the cost of the filters to households at a "promotion price". For those interested to this initiative for their NGOs or their schools back home, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org OR email@example.com; Tel: 0764574919.

PROGRESS-Jan 2015: 100 Filter components DONATED by Prof.ChadProf. Chad Jafvert of Purdue University, USA made an unforgettable contribution in support of Dr. Askwar Hilonga to strengthen his endeavor to win the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. Prof. Jafvert and students in his Global Engineering course at Purdue donated filter components for 100 slow sand filters to be integrated with disinfection filters that Dr. Hilonga is developing. This first "slow-sand-filter" component is for removal of water turbidity, and up to 97% removal of micro-organisms: bacteria, virus, and protozoa. The component that Dr. Hilonga is designing and testing is for final and complete disinfection. Dr. Hilonga will test his business model after successfully demonstrating the complete system at laboratory and pilot scales. A prototype is in-use at a Gongali Model Co. Community Center.

PROGRESS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NM-AIST....Sept 2014More information is available on COSTECH website Click here Dr. Askwar Hilonga of Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in Tanzania has been selected for the shortlist in the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2014.Dr Askwar have also won six months of training and mentoring before an overall winner is selected in 2015. This is a second success of Nanotech Group at Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology. The first success of the group was when it represented NM-AIST to international business competition in USA Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Prof Burton Mwamila appreciated efforts shown by the Nanotech Group and Said the institute is coming up in the research and innovation arena. He acknowledged good support from the Tanzanian Government through the Ministry of Communication, Science and technology and promised to maintain standards in Research. For his part Dr. Askwar Hilonga said his innovation is at the pilot stage. Its unique selling point is for being inexpensive and therefore affordable to his targeted market niche. Hilonga anticipates commercializing his innovation to provide accessible, affordable, sustainable and lasting solution for drinking water in under-served rural Tanzanian communities. Dr Hilonga who also is a lecturer at Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology said his pilot venture run by the Gongali Model Company Limited is in Gongali Vilage, Karatu-Arusha, Tanzania. He has 30 publications, by May 2014, on this Nanotechnology-based innovation that integrates high technology with traditionally known approach to solve local and global challenge (clean and safe drinking water).

Health principles promoted in Gongali can be summarize in acronym "NEWSTART" - That is Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, Trust in God
Health Promotion Seminars
Health promotion seminars are conducted regularly by the GEO members and various partners, particularly the SDA Church which has already shown a great interest in this adventure and we want to follow their example as demonstrated in Seventh-day Adventists and Health. Other Religious groups/churches, Institutions, NGOs, Individuals, etc are also welcomed to bring their contribution and IMPACT many people's lives in Gongali and elsewhere around Africa. At present, we are also starting to promote the cultivation and consumption of the Moringa Tree. The video below demonstrates our reasons for choosing this plant, interestingly called a MIRACLE TREE.
